Saving a report / Export a report to my PC - (Mapping Network Drives on RDP)

Index

Overview

This HowTo document is designed to show you how to save a report on your local PC.

Remote Desktop Connection - Options

If you have an icon

Right Click on it, to access a menu similar to this

Choose Edit

This will bring up the Remote Desktop Connection Options

Click on the tab Local Resources

Tick the Disk Drives checkbox to connect your machine to the remote computer.

Hit Connect

You will get a security message which reminds you that you are making a connection between your local machine and the remote one, which, as microsoft advises, “this may be potentially unsafe”

It is not recommended to connect disk drives on each login, only when they are necessary.

Click Ok to connect

Remote Desktop Connection - Windows XP service pack 3, Windows Vista

Right click on the icon on your desktop.

Click Open

Click Options, Local Resources Tab, More

Tick the drive letter/s that you want mapped - normally C: will do...

OK

Exporting A Report

The Performance & Productivity section has a standard report called ztd – Revenue Sales (Excel). This report is designed to export to Excel.

It can be previewed in pdf format, but the columns are not really readable:

So hit the Export Report button

The default format is Acrobat Format (PDF).

Select an Excel Format from the drop down list. If you just want to print it with no manipulation, leave it in PDF format

When you use the drop down list, you will be able to see your local computer disk drives.

Note: In this example the computer name is MAGNIFIX... your machine name will obviously be different to this example.

Note: the Desktop which is listed here is the rdp desktop, NOT your local computer desktop.

Find Your Desktop

If you want to save the file to your local desktop (using Windows XP),

follow these steps:

This will save the file to your local computer

Open the file from your desktop

Manipulate / print as normal with a local file.
