What procedures must our business implement for backups or in the case of a Respax failure or internet failure?

Overview

As with any form of important electronic data, it is very important to have a fall-back procedure when things go wrong. The backup and fall-back procedures that Trinity Software have implemented are explained.

What has Respax done to safeguard my information?

The information here is for the hosted/rental Respax edition ONLY, NOT for Respax Enterprise Edition.

  1. Differential backups are made every hour.
  2. A full backup is made every night.
  3. The full backup is sent off site to ensure a natural disaster or other physical destruction of the remote servers do not compromise the data.
  4. The data can be restored on servers in different locations on different continents.

What procedures must the client implement?

Internet

Respax relies on a good ADSL (or better) internet connection to connect to the remote servers via the Remote Desktop Connection protocol.

  1. Data bandwidth - at the very least 512Mb/sec - To check your bandwidth - go here: http://speedtest.net/

  2. Good ping times - less that 100 ms is recommended. - To check your ping times to our servers - go here: http://wiki.respax.com.au/respax/r4w_faqs_slow

  3. If possible, have a fall-back internet account. If your main account is using the Telstra backbone, use Optus as fall-back and visa versa. (These are only examples of internet service providers in Australia - please insert names appropriate for your country...) A fall-back wireless account would be a suitable alternative as well.

A plan

  1. Print your critical bus list, manifests etc. on an hourly basis or a schedule that suits your business model.
  2. Have a full "paper"/non-internet reliant plan in place that will run your operation for at least the next 24 hours.
  3. If the hosting company that Trinity Software use, has a prolonged system failure, we will provide new RDP login details to the fall-back servers. (Just the computer name and Domain name.)
  4. It is the responsibility of the client to have the appropriate user names, passwords and experience how to change the Respax RDP logins. Information can be found here: http://wiki.respax.com.au/respax/r4w_howtos_RDP
